Paul has been working with Scaler on an advisory capacity in APAC for the past 12 months and has recently joined as our team-member on the back of our early success in this new market.
With our launch clients in Australia and New Zealand all settled in and a number of pilots running we are excited with this new opportunity. As Head of Sustainability and Energy for 9 years at one of Australia’s leading REIT's (Dexus) Paul has been in the drivers seat and has a deep understanding of what our clients need, across all stakeholders, to make their life easier. Advocacy has been a key part of Paul’s career having Chaired Australia's Better Buildings Partnership and sitting on the GRESB Oceania Benchmarking Committee, Property Council of Australia’s National Sustainability Roundtable and was also the CEO of the Australian Passive House Association. His interest in Proptech has spanned many years and bringing technology solutions to property operations has been a real passion
Here are some reflections from Paul about his time at Scaler so far.
What do you enjoy most about coming to work everyday?
I really like reading the faces in the demo's and seeing them giving subtle hints that they really love the product already. Bringing solutions is always good and knowing that we have the ability to adapt and create new features to make reporting easier is great. Having a strong focus on delivery and following through on promises is highly satisfying especially as we are working within a close cohort of purposeful people who are big collaborators. Being greeted as a savior rather than just another product is nice, and meeting up with clients formally and ad-hoc knowing that you have helped them out
What have you found challenging thus far?
Knowing when you are being helpful or a bit of a pest, when following up on leads. It's always good to do a bit of tag team with someone else and bounce ideas in these situations, and understanding that people are busy and timing can be tricky. Being new in the region it takes some courage from launch clients to take the leap and trust in Scaler, and we had a few early misses, but then new ones followed fairly quickly which is usually the way. It also takes time to localise a product and gaining the trust of clients that this will happen is always challenging. When I was first introduced to Scaler, I was looking for a solution for my clients at the time, and the speed of development was something that initially impressed me.
What do you feel is your biggest accomplishment to date?
Biggest accomplishment to date is the market awareness that we have built, and that word of mouth is starting to happen. We now have a high level of confidence for success in the region and are investing in this opportunity which has a vast footprint outside of just Australia and New Zealand where we have our first clients on board already. We have lots of ideas to create a higher level of exposure and traction and with mandatory reporting now accelerating across the region we have lots of new players needing our solution, and existing reporters that need to adopt stronger governance frameworks to enhance and protect their reputation.
